TapTrade: a peer-to-peer trading marketplace on iOS and Android
A consumer marketplace taken from concept to public release on both app stores, delivered across more than twenty sprints.
Bazaar: swipe through nearby trades Matches, grouped by your item Chat to agree the swap Your items, each with a price range Product details Filters: your items, categories and radius
Context
TapTrade is a peer-to-peer marketplace for swapping things you no longer want for things you do: clothing, electronics, furniture, collectibles. People trade with each other directly instead of selling. I joined as a partner in July 2025, when it was a concept rather than a product.
My role
Partner and full-stack developer. I owned the product lifecycle from concept through public release, which covered the build itself and the planning around it: task breakdown, backlog grooming and sprint coordination. I wrote most of the code, across the app, the API and the admin panel.
Approach
The core loop is simple to use and fiddly to build. You list what you have with the price range you would accept, choose the categories you want and a trade radius on a map, then swipe through nearby items. When two people like each other's items it is a match. Suggestions are filtered by price overlap and category preference, and a trade only completes when both sides confirm it, which also takes both items off the market.
Under the hood it is a Flutter app (GetX) for iOS and Android, an Express and TypeScript API on Supabase, Firebase for Google and Apple sign-in and push notifications, and a Flutter web admin panel with charts, deployed on Railway.
The work was organised into more than twenty sprints across six-plus feature modules. Each module was broken into tasks small enough to estimate honestly, and the backlog was groomed continuously so that the next piece of work was always the highest-value one the current state of the app could support.
Shipping to two stores at once meant treating release management as engineering work rather than a final step: store listings, review requirements and versioning were planned alongside features.
Deliverables
- The app for iOS and Android, released on the App Store and Google Play
- An Express and TypeScript API on Supabase, with push notifications
- A Flutter web admin panel with charts
- Sprint plans and a groomed backlog covering six-plus feature modules
- Release process for two app stores
Outcome
TapTrade is publicly available on the App Store and Google Play, and version 2.0 shipped in July 2026. Twenty-plus sprints were planned and delivered end to end.
